About Us

牋牋The year was 1895, America was at peace and Grover Cleveland was President of the United States. America had recovered from the Civil War, and was in the midst of an Industrial Revolution that would launch the country into the 20th century as a leader in innovation in business and industry.

牋牋In the quiet Northwestern New Jersey town of Asbury, 1895 also witnessed the birth of what was to become an important American enterprise. It was in that year that Harry M. Riddle, the local postmaster and grocery store proprietor, established Asbury Graphite Mills in the picture-book beauty of the Musconetcong River Valley. Over the course of the next 108 years, the company which began in a converted water-powered grist mill, has grown to include processing and warehousing facilities throughout North America, and a distribution network that spans the globe.

牋牋A century later, with stewardship being handed over to the fourth generation of Riddles, Asbury Carbons, a family of companies including the original Asbury Graphite Mills, remains a major supplier of natural and synthetic carbon, related carbon products, and a variety of other raw materials used in a wide range of industries in America and around the world. In fact, Asbury continues to maintain its position as the world's largest independent processor and merchant of graphite.

牋牋With the ongoing expansion of our product lines to supply critical raw materials to the world's cast metals and industrial markets, our current President, Mr. Stephen Riddle continues Asbury's long history of growth and diversification.
