Depending on the anomeric pattern of the glycosidic linkage between glucose and hydroquinone, arbutin forms two epimers: α-arbutin and β-arbutin. Alpha-Arbutin Alpha-Arbutin is enzymatically synthesized from hydroquinone and saccharides through transglycosylation reaction.
