FAD is an active riboflavin existing in the body, as a supplement of some oxidoretases, widely participates in various oredox reactions in the body, and acts in conveying chamber hydrogen delivery in the biological oxidation system.

Flavin adenine dinucleotide (FAD) is the active riboflavin present in the body, a component of the pyruvate dehydrogenase complex. Could be used as a redox cofactor (electron carrier) by flavoproteins including succinate dehydrogenase (complex), α-ketoglutarate dehydrogenase, apoptosis-inducing factor 2 (AIF-M2, AMID), folate/FAD-dependent tRNA methyltransferases, and N-hydroxylating flavoprotein monooxygenases.
