CSBP抯 main operations are at Kwinana in Western Australia, with other facilities located at the regional port centres of Geraldton, Bunbury, Albany and Esperance. The company also operates the Queensland Nitrates integrated ammonium nitrate manufacturing facility at Moura, in central Queensland, as part of a joint venture with Dyno Nobel Asia Pacific. CSBP employs more than 500 people, has an annual turnover of close to half a billion dollars and operates in two main business streams. CSBP ChemicalsThe core products in the CSBP chemicals business include ammonia, ammonium nitrate, sodium cyanide, chlorine, caustic soda and sulphuric acid. In 2000 the company commissioned a $150 million ammonia manufacturing plant at Kwinana with a design capacity of 200,000 tonnes per annum. In the same year, the Queensland Nitrates integrated ammonium nitrate manufacturing facility at Moura, in central Queensland, was completed, as part of a joint venture with Dyno Nobel Asia Pacific. Sodium cyanide is purchased by the mining industry, both as a solution and in solid form, for use in the gold extraction process. It is manufactured and sold by CSBP for the 75 per cent-owned Australian Gold Reagents joint venture. A new 20,000-tonne-per-year sodium cyanide solids plant, commissioned at Kwinana in 2002, is primarily focused on servicing export markets. CSBP Fertilisers Since the early 1900s, much of Western Australia抯 agricultural growth has been closely linked to the success of the CSBP fertilisers business in developing, manufacturing and marketing fertilisers suited to local farming conditions. Through both its manufacturing and importing activity, CSBP fertilisers provides a wide range of highly competitive products and services for use in broadacre cropping, livestock, horticulture and dairy operations. In order to maximize the productivity of rural producers, CSBP operates one of Australia抯 most modern soil and plant testing laboratories. CSBP also maintains a strong commitment to the use of innovative technology through its satellite image analysis systems and comprehensive soil and plant fertiliser programmes. |
