About Us

AMR Technologies Inc. (AMR) is an international technology company that engineers rare earths, zirconium and magnets into materials that enable technology to perform stronger, cleaner, lighter, smaller, brighter and faster.

With annual sales of approximately U.S.$50million in 2000, and a growing portfolio of materials developed for the next generation of consumer technology products, AMR is a public company whose shares are traded on the Toronto Stock Exchange under the symbol "AMR".

The company was founded in 1993 with headquarters in Toronto. Today, AMR employs 1,100 people at its head office, its subsidiary offices in the U.S.A., United Kingdom, Barbados, Korea, Japan, and in its manufacturing facilities in China and Thailand.

AMR's operations are carried out through its subsidiaries along geographic and product lines, with a unified worldwide sales organization to market these products, which include:

Rare Earth Products - AMR is one of the world's leading producers of rare earths - a specialized line of engineered materials that enhance the performance of many electronic, computer and automotive components, which has a 10 - 15% share of the world market for the products it sells. AMR holds a controlling interest in two Chinese rare-earth producers -- where over 80% of the world's economically recoverable rare earth deposits exist.

Zirconium Products - AMR produces a series of Zirconium-based materials, a non rare earth element, at one of its production facilities in China. Technologies incorporating Zirconium, quite often in combination with rare earths, include solid oxide fuel cells, automotive catalyst systems, glass fabrication, electronic applications, thermal barriers, and high performance fibre-optic connectors.

Magnetic Products - AMR is one of only two companies in the world commercially producing high performance Neodymium Iron Boron (NdFeB) magnetic powder required to manufacture bonded NdFeB magnets. AMR also produces powerful, lightweight bonded Neodymium Iron Boron magnets. These magnetic products, which are produced at AMR's manufacturing facilities in Thailand, are essential to the functioning of many computer peripheral, consumer electronics and automotive (including "function-by-wire") applications.
