LUZCHEM RESEARCH Inc.
LUZCHEM RESEARCH Inc. designs, develops, manufactures and markets a specialized line of laboratory instruments designed to study the interaction of light with a wide range of materials.
LUZCHEM RESEARCH was incorporated in Canada in 1997. The company was founded by Dr. J.C. Scaiano and his wife Elda E. Scaiano, and entered the manufacturing field with the construction of photoreactors for the Pulp and Paper industry. The company has continued to refine and develop the photoreactor line and in 1999 reached an agreement with the University of Ottawa for the design, development and manufacturing of a patented miniaturized Laser Flash Photolysis System (mLFP).
In 2002, Luzchem introduced products for thin film metrology, and in 2003 xenon illumination products.
In February 2000 Luzchem moved its research and manufacturing to the Industrial Partnerships Facility of the National Research Council in Ottawa, a prestigious location for promising start-up companies. Dr. Scaiano, Luzchem's Chief Scientist, continues to have responsibility for the development of new products for applied spectroscopy.
Dr. Scaiano also holds the position of Distinguished University Professor at the University of Ottawa and is Editor-in-Chief for Photochemistry and Photobiology. Details of Dr. Scaiano's career can be found at the Institute for Scientific Information Highly Cited website. Scaiano is also the winner of the 2002 Gerhard Herzberg NSERC gold medal in Science and Engineering, Canada's top science prize.
