Zinc pyrithione Suppliers, Zinc pyrithione Manufacturers.
DescriptionZinc Pyrithione is a derivative of zinc and acts as an antibacterial agent as well as the anti-fungal agent to fight many pathogenic microorganisms (streptococcus, staphylococcus). This ingredient is used to control dandruff and seborrheic dermatitis (inflammation of the skin pertaining to the excessive discharge of sebum or oil). Zinc Pyrithione reduces the itching and flaking of the scalp associated with dandruff. Zinc Pyrithione is used in as an active ingredient in cosmetics, an anti-dandruff ingredient in shampoo preparations. It is used in antifouling paints and sealants too.

Chemical Reactivity
Use of Zinc Pyrithione in formulation involving strong oxidizing or reducing agents should be avoided. Oxidising agents (i.e. peroxides, hypohalites) will convert pyrithiones to other species.
Use of Zinc Pyrithione products in systems where Iron or Copper ion are available should be avoided if a change in color is unacceptable.
Some chelating agents, such as ethylene diaminetetra acetic acid (EDTA), will chelates the zinc from Zinc Pyrithione, forming the anion of pyrithione and the zinc complex of EDTA. This will not harm the preservative action of the pyrithione but does consume EDTA.
pH Stability
Zinc Pyrithione bactericide-fungicide can be used over the pH range from 4 to 10. Below pH 4.5 the zinc complex dissociates, forming free pyrithione. Above pH 9.5 the zinc complex hydrolyzes to yield ionized pyrithione and zincate species. Both free and ionized pyrithione are microbiologically active, but being much more water-soluble than the zinc complex, they are more susceptible to degradation from exposure to light or oxygen.
Light Stability
Zinc Pyrithione will gradually degrade when exposed in UV light. The extent of photo degradation depends largely on the nature of the formulation. Formulations containing zinc pyrithione biocide should be packaged in brown or orange containers unless tests on the formulations have shown that photo degradation is not a problem. The photo stability of zinc pyrithione is typically not an application issue.
