Bicine buffer is a type of Good's buffer, with the Chinese name N, N-dihydroxyethylglycine. Like other biological buffers, its main function is to regulate the pH environment, and its effective pH range is 7.6-9.0.
Bicine is often used as a buffer solution for capillary electrophoresis, which is a zwitterionic buffer and belongs to the buffering agent. The pH buffer range is 7.6-9.0. Bicine has a molecular structure similar to glycine, with a substituted amino group, a carboxyl group, and two hydroxyl groups as coordination groups. Therefore, it has the properties of both amino acids and aminoethanol, and can form metal complexes with a single anion (Bic -). It is often used as a buffer solution for capillary electrophoresis.
Bicine is an effective inhibitor for the oxidative degradation of amines, which can effectively inhibit the oxidative degradation of amines or amine containing absorbents used. As a chelating agent applied in soil remediation, Bicine is a water-soluble amino acid analogue that is environmentally friendly and contains two - OH and one - COOH molecules. It has good chelating properties and can chelate heavy metal ions such as Cu, Cd, Pb, but cannot chelate calcium and magnesium ions. Often used as a chelating agent for remediation of heavy metal contaminated soil. Bicine has excellent elution ability for heavy metals under both neutral and acidic conditions, and can efficiently remove ions of Cu, Cd, and Pb from contaminated soil
