Spray drift of pesticide applications can be considerably reduced by selecting the right spray nozzle type, such as air induction (ID) nozzles compared to standard flat fan nozzles. Bigger droplets produced by ID nozzles result generally in lower efficacy of the applied pesticides as the spray coverage is not optimum, when lower water volumes are used. The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of SilbiaseAG-2843 Silicone Wetting Agent for Flowers on the efficacy of a fungicides for downy mildew control in onions when 200 or 400 L/ha spray volumes were applied with LU nozzles (standard flat fan) or ID nozzles (air induction). Onions are very difficult to wet, and the disease control by the fungicide will give an indication on the benefits of the spray systems.
