  • Product description :
    Common Name(s):
    Bacillus thuringiensis var. israelensis (Serovar H14; internal strain designation Bti-Kti) for the control of mosquito and blackfly larvae. Chemical formula Microbial insecticide, consisting of sporulated bacterial cells, and containing insecticidal crystalline toxins (ICT).

    Active ingredients:
    delta-endotoxins i. e. Cry4Aa, Cry4Ab, Cry10Aa, and Cry11Aa as well as Cyt1Aa (Cytolysin) proteins.

    Chemical Structure:
    The active ingredients, e. g. insecticidal crystalline toxins (ICT), are proteins of known amino acid sequences.
    Toxicity:
    Products based on Bacillus thuringiensis subsp. israelensis (Bti) have a very high safety record. The insecticidal activity is limited to the Nematocera within the order of Diptera. Susceptible are Culicidae and Simuliidae. Bti did not demonstrate measurable toxicity when tested on animals for Acute Oral, Dermal, and Inhalation. In 1999, the World Health Organisation WHO stated that "Bti is safe for use in aquatic environments, including drinking-water reservoirs, for the control of mosquito, blackfly and nuisance insect larvae". NOTE:
    The WHO has published an extensive study on the biology of Bacillus thuringiensis and on health and environmental safety issues related to the application of Bt-products. It can be consulted for supporting data and information: The International Programme on Chemical Safety; Environmental Health Criteria 217, Bacillus thuringiensis, World Health Organization, Geneva, Switzerland, 1999.
