They bear edible mango-like fruits. The fruit is a large drupe, with fibrous flesh, and are especially valued for their dietary-fibre-, fat- and protein-rich nuts, known as ogbono, etima, odika, or dika nuts. The subtly aromatic nuts are typically dried in the sun for preservation, and are sold whole or in powder form. They may be ground to a paste known variously as dika bread or Gabon chocolate. Their high content of mucilage enables them to be used as thickening agents for dishes such as ogbono soup. The nuts may also be pressed for vegetable oil.Irvingia gabonensis seed Extract is naturally extracted using only the finest Irvingia gabonensis seeds. A new study published in Lipids in Health and Disease suggests that an extract derived from the seed of West African mango may help overweight people shed kilograms, lower their cholesterol and chances of developing degenerative diseases. Researchers in other studies found that the fruit of Irvingia gabonensis could be used to reduce abdominal fat, and stop diarrhoea and ulcer. Lab research has shown that extracts from the plant' s seed may inhibit body fat production, through effects on certain genes and enzymes that regulate metabolism. How does it work?Irvingia gabonensis seeds might lower cholesterol because of their high fiber content. The fiber increases removal of cholesterol from the body.
Some research suggests that Irvingia gabonensis seeds might also affect fat cells, which might reduce fat cell growth and increase the breakdown of fats.Uses:High cholesterol. Some small studies show that Irvingia gabonensis seed extracts might reduce bad cholesterol levels and increase good cholesterol levels in people who are overweight. But this research is low quality.Obesity.
