GELATINES WEISHARDT was founded in 1839 in Dijon (France) and at the time the company produced skin glue. This glue was used in the furniture industry.
In the early 30's, one of the Weishardt brothers decided to build a factory near to a source of raw materials. He chose Graulhet, in south-west France which had a flourishing leather industry and could supply bovine skins to Weishardt. The other advantage was the very pure and abundant water which could be drawn from underground reserves as the water used in the production of gelatine must have a very low mineral content.
