Camellia saponin,also called tea saponins, is a kind of carbohydrate glucoside compounds extracting from camellia tree seeds.It has a bitter spicy taste,a good hygroscopicity and can cause sneezing. Camellia saponin also has good emulsification, decentralization, foaming, wetting functions, and pharmacological function on sterilization, detoxification, anti-inflammatory, relieving itching.It shows acidic in red methyl,and hardly soluble in methanol, ethanol,and insoluable ethyl ether, acetone, benzene, petroleum and other organic solvent,while it is soluable in methanol, ethanol, and glacial acetic acid water, vinegar anhydride, pyridine, etc.When adding hydrochloric acid to camellia saponin solution, saponins precipitates. Melting point: 224 ℃.
