Product Name: L-Phenylalanine; Synonyms: L(-)-PHENYLALANINE;L-PHENYLALANINE;L-PHE;BETA-PHENYLALANINE;DL-2-AMINO-3-PHENYLPROPANOIC ACID;L-ALPHA-AMINO-BETA-PHENYLPROPIONIC ACID;L-BETA-PHENYLALANINE;L-2-AMINO-3-PHENYLPROPANOIC ACID; CAS: 63-91-2; MF: C9H11NO2; MW: 165.19; EINECS: 200-568-1; Product Categories: Food and Feed Additive;Amino ACIDS SERIES;API intermediates;Phenylalanine [Phe, F];Amino Acids and Derivatives;Amino Acids 13C, 2H, 15N;alpha-Amino Acids;Amino Acids;Biochemistry;Nutritional Supplements;L-Amino Acids;Amino Acids;Amino Acids & Derivatives;amino; Melting point: 270-275 °C (dec.)(lit.); alpha: -34.1 º (c=2, water, dry basis); density: 1.29; storage temp.: Store at RT.; HS Code: 29224995; Chemical Properties: White crystalline powder; Description: Phenylalanine can be viewed as a benzyl group substituted for the methyl group of alanine, or a phenyl group in place of a terminal hydrogen of alanine. This essential amino acid is classified as neutral, and nonpolar because of the inert and hydrophobic nature of the benzyl side chain. The L-isomer is used to biochemically form proteins, coded for by DNA. The codons for L-phenylalanine are UUU and UUC. Phenylalanine is a precursor for tyrosine; the monoamine neurotransmitters dopamine, norepinephrine (noradrenaline), and epinephrine (adrenaline); and the skin pigment melanin. Phenylalanine is found naturally in the breast milk of mammals. It is used in the manufacture of food and drink products and sold as a nutritional supplement for its reputed analgesic and antidepressant effects. It is a direct precursor to the neuromodulator phenethylamine, a commonly used dietary supplement. Usage: L-Phenylalanine is an essential amino acid. L-Phenylalanine is biologically converted into L-tyrosine, another one of the DNA-encoded amino acids, which in turn is converted to L-DOPA and further conv erted into dopamine, norepinephrine, and epinephrine. L-Phenylalanine is produced for medical, feed, and nutritional applications such as in the preparation of Aspartame. |
