It is of a rhombohedral crystal structure; often an aggregate of dense lump; more in white or gray color with glass glance; hardness 3.4-5; specific gravity 2.9 - 3.1; and high purity. It is mainly used in the manufacture of refractories and the extraction of magnesium metal.
