Introduction: Pendimethalin is a selective herbicide used to control most annual grasses and certain broadleaf weeds in field corn, potatoes, rice, cotton, soybeans, tobacco, peanuts and sunflowers. It is used both preemergence, that is before weed seeds have sprouted, and early postemergence. Incorporated into the soil by cultivation or irrigation is recommended within 7 days following application. Pendimethalin is available as emulsifiable concentrate, wettable powder or dispersible granule formulations. Physical Properties: Specific gravity: 1.17 g/ml at 25 ℃ H20 solubility: 0.275 ppm at 25 ℃; 300 ppb at 20 ℃ Solubility in other solvents: soluble in most organic solvents such as acetone (161.0 g/100 ml at 25 ℃) and xylene. Melting point: Melting starts at 47-53 ℃, and samples are completely melted at 56-58 ℃. Field corn: preemergence and early postemergence. For preemergence application, pendimethalin may be applied in water or liquid fertilizer. Conduct a fertilizer compatibility test using pendimethalin and any of its registered tank mix partners. Early postemergence application may only use water as a carrier. Residual Activity: Persistence depends on weather conditions (more persistent under dry conditions). Only registered crops may be planted in the year of application. Soybeans and corn may be planted the year following application in corn. Days to harvest restriction: 100 days. Unique Characteristics: Strongly adsorbed to soil particles. Most effective when rain is received within 7 days of application. For onions, apply at both growth stages for season-long control. Tank mixes in corn or sequential application of other herbicides in onions and corn are required for broad-spectrum weed control. Registered for dry bulb onions grown on muck and mineral soil. Do not graze treated fields or feed treated foliage to livestock prior to 100 days after application. |
