Mechanism of Action: Androstenediol, a prohormone, is a weak steroid hormone and is a direct precursor of testosterone (1905). Androstenediol can be converted to estradiol, estrone, dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), and testosterone; and may increase levels of these hormones (1905, 10162). 3. Androstenediol is a precursor to testosterone and can increase levels of testosterone (1905). Theoretically, concomitant use with androstenediol might increase therapeutic and adverse effects of testosterone.
