  The biotite is in black,dark tan,light red,light green or other color.It ranges from transparent to opaque,and it has glassy luster.The black ones appear to be half metal luster.The insulativity of biotite is far worse than muscovite because of high iron content.The biotite slices are often used as additive of building materials.Biotite with larger grain size is easy to be identified according to its lamellar morphology,darker color and elasity ,its cleaving totally and being slightly magnetic when heated. Plutonite and hypabyssal rock,especially acidic or partial alkaline rocks often contain biotite.
