Cephalosporin C is a raw material for the production of cephalosporin antibiotics and is active against Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella typhi and Escherichia coli. A highly efficient derivative can be obtained by modification, and is currently mainly used as an intermediate for the preparation of 7-aminocephalosporanic acid (7-ACA).
