Pheophorbide
Blue-black crystalline acid obtained from chlorophyll or pheophytin.
Insoluble in water, easily soluble in alcohol, chloroform and ethyl ether. Alcohol solution: transparent, without sediment.
Used as a pharmaceutical intermediate.
Pheophorbide a is the product of chlorophyll breakdown. It is used as a photosensitizer.
Photodynamic therapy (PDT) with several photosensitizers is a promising modality for the treatment of cancer. In this study, the therapeutic effect of PDT using the synthetic photosensitizer pheophorbide a (Pa-PDT) was examined in AT-84 murine oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) cells.
