Description:
Ropivacaine hydrochloride is a local anaesthetic drug belonging to the amino amide group. The name ropivacaine refers to both the racemate and the marketed S-enantiomer. Ropivacaine is an anesthetic (numbing medicine) that blocks the nerve impulses that send pain signals to your brain.
Ropivacaine hydrochloride is used as a local (in only one area) anesthesia for a spinal block, also called an epidural. The medication is used to provide anesthesia during a surgery or C-section, or to ease labor pains.
Applications:
Ropivacaine is often coadministered with fentanyl for epidural analgesia, for example in pregnant women during labour.as for bupivacaine, Celepid, a commonly available intravenous lipid emulsion, can be effective in treating severe cardiotoxicity secondary to local anaesthetic overdose in animal experiments and in humans in a process called lipid rescue.
Dosage:
Ropivacaine hydrochloride, for treatment of postoperative pain, the following technique can be recommended: If regional anesthesia was not used intraoperatively, then an initial epidural block with 5 to 7 mL Naropin (ropivacaine hcl) is induced via an epidural catheter. Analgesia is maintained with an infusion of Naropin (ropivacaine hcl) , 2 mg/mL (0.2%).
Ropivacaine hydrochloride,Clinical studies have demonstrated that infusion rates of 6 to 14 mL (12 to 28 mg) per hour provide adequate analgesia with nonprogressive motor block. With this technique a significant reduction in the need for opioids was demonstrated. Clinical experience supports the use of Naropin (ropivacaine hcl) epidural infusions for up to 72 hours.
