White crystalline granule or crystalline powder; odourless or with little propionate smell; easily deliquescence, very easily soluble in water, solube in ethabol, slightly soluble in acetone.

Used in preservative for bread, cakes and cheese etc, mildew inhibitor in feedstuffs and additive for mineral substance.
It belongs to acidic preservatives and its effect is affected by PH value,in acidic mediums mould,aerobic bacillus can be inhibited effectively.
It has special effect on aspergillus flavus but hardly on yeast.
Used as cosmetic additive with wide inhibiting effect on mould and saccharomycetes.Dosage generally not beyond2%
Other uses as :pesticides antimildew agent ,masking agent in tanning.
