Normally, beta-D-glucose pentaacetate is synthetized by esterification reaction of glucose and acetic anhydride, as there are two configurations when glucose dissovled in solution, so the finish product comprises alpha-D-glucose pentaacetate & beta-D-glucose pentaacetate.
Beta-D-glucose pentaacetate can be used for synthesis of some pharmaceutical intermediate such as beta-glucose derivatives, e.g. β-D-Glucose-2,3,4,6-tetraacetate & beta-glucosidase, and it also acts as food additives, skin care agent & bleach activator
