  Helium gas (He) is a colorless, odorless, tasteless, non-toxic, inert, monatomic gas that heads the noble gas group in the periodic table. Its boiling and melting points are the lowest among the elements and it exists only as a gas except in extreme conditions.

  4. Applications
  
  1). Compared with Hydrogen, it has the advantage of being non-flammable (in addition to being fire retardant), and it’s lighter than air, airships and balloons are inflated with helium for lift.
  
  2). It is used as a shielding gas in arc welding processes on materials that at welding temperatures are contaminated and weakened by air or nitrogen. Helium is used instead of cheaper argon especially for welding materials that have higher heat conductivity, like aluminium or copper.
  
  3). It is used as a tracer gas to detect leaks in high-vacuum equipment (such as cryogenic tanks) and high-pressure containers.
  
  4). For its low solubility in nervous tissue, helium mixtures such as trimix, heliox and heliair are used for deep diving to reduce the effects of narcosis
  
  5). Helium is a commonly used carrier gas for gas chromatography.
  
  6). The use of helium reduces the distorting effects of temperature variations in the space between lenses in some telescopes, due to its extremely low index of refraction.[5] This method is especially used in solar telescopes where a vacuum tight telescope tube would be too heavy.
  
  
  
  5. Notice for Helium Gas
  
  Helium gas is high pressure gas with colorless, odorless, tasteless, non-toxic, non-flammable stored in gas cylinder. Normally, its pressure is 15Mpa(150Bar), and should be operation after reduced the pressure with pressure reducer. Meanwhile, people should inspect the gas pipeline and make sure the pipeline without air leak.
  
  
  
  The cylinder with packed helium gas has life period marked on cylinder, if over life period, it must be sent to related department to inspect, and then keep on storing.
  
  
  
  When close the end for helium gas packed with cylinder, there should be at least 0.25Mpa pressure, then close valve to make sure the quality and safe.
  
  
  
  & The difference of Helium gas and Hydrogen gas to fill balloon
  
  Hydrogen is active gas, and easy to react with other gas. If this, then cause explosion. But helium gas is a rare and inert gas and not easy to react with other gas, then very safe, which has been widely use all over the world.
