About Us

AB Lifosa, the former Kedainiai State Chemical Plant, was founded in 1959. The company's birthday is taken as January 18, 1963 when the first quantities of sulphuric acid were produced. The company is situated at the geographical centre of Lithuania, in Kedainiai. The distance from Vilnius is 140 km and 210 km from the ice-free Baltic port Klaipeda. Important highways cross the town. A railway connects the town with other towns in Lithuania. A branch of the railroad comes to the plant's premises to load raw materials. The biggest part of the production is delivered by railway from the plant.

The plant's premises cover 364 ha and there are around 1500 employees.

The main activities are production of mineral phosphoric fertilizers, such as powder and granulated single superphosphate, ammophos (mono-ammonium-phosphate), granulated phosphorous-potash (P-K) and experimental production of nitrogen-phosphorous-potash (N-P-K) blending. The income from fertilizer production is ca. 93-94%. The fertilizers produced by AB Lifosa are of good quality and environmentally friendly as they are produced from Kola apatite, having only imperceptible amounts of heavy metals and very low radioactivity.

In addition, aluminium fluoride (AlF3) is produced which is later used in non-ferrous metallurgy. Constructional gypsum is produced as a by-product of phosphoric acid production. Some quantities of sulphuric and phosphoric acids are sold as products for industrial purposes. The company also produces sulphuric acid of technical grade and commercial grade. In 1994 a calcium carbide plant was built.
