Bangkok Synthetics Co., Ltd. (BST) was established in 1991 under the promotional privilege of the Board of Investment of Thailand for the purpose of promoting and executing the C4 derivatives Project in which utilizing the Mixed C4. BST抯plant is located within Map Ta Phut Industrial Estate in Eastern Seaboard Development Program at Rayong Province, Thailand.
Production on the first stage involved 2 main products namely Methyl Tertiary Butyl Ether (MTBE) and Butene-1 at the capacity of 55,000 and 10,000 Metric Ton per year respectively using UOP process by utilizing the Mixed C4 from Naphtha cracking plant of the Thai Olefins Co., Ltd. (TOC). The plant commenced commercial operation in 1995.
Production on the second stage involved in the increase production capacity of Butene-1 from 10,000 to 35,000 Metric Tons per year and the production of Butadiene at the capacity of 140,000 Metric Tons per year using Nippon Zeon process, by offtaking Mixed C4 from the Rayong Olefins Co., Ltd. (ROC) and National Petrochemical Co., Ltd. (NPC). Butadiene plant is expected to commence commercial operation in the fourth quarter of 1998. After commencement, BST is becoming the regional largest manufacturer of Butadiene.
