A. J. Cope & Son
A J Cope & Son Ltd have been meeting the needs of laboratories throughout the world for nearly 150 years.
The company traces its origins to 1849 when pharmaceutical dispensing measures were being manufactured in the City of London.
Mr A. J. Cope, grandfather of the present owners, was apprenticed to a Mr Tucker in 1870 and together they manufactured volumetric medical and laboratory glassware. In 1890 they formed a partnership under the name Cope & Tucker.
In 1920 the Cope family took control of the business and it began trading as A. J. Cope & Son.
The company continued to expand with only one serious interruption in 1941 when, during the Second World War, the entire manufacturing plant was destroyed. Manufacture was restarted within weeks. Since that time the company’s activities have expanded to include the distribution of laboratory equipment, glassware and chemicals through the UK and abroad.
Today A.J. Cope & Son Ltd is the UK’s leading independent supplier of Laboratory goods and is able to meet the needs of any modern laboratory.
A. J. Cope remains a family run business. Mr Brian L. Cope and Mr Colin C. Cope, grandsons of the company’s founder, and the present owners are still involved in running the business on a day-to-day basis.
