MILLER & WEBER, INC.
Historical Sketch of MILLER & WEBER, INC.
Charles Miller Precision Thermometer Company was founded in 1941 by Charles J. Miller and his wife Elizabeth B. Miller. They had been in the thermometer manufacturing business for over twenty-five years, he, a most talented glassblower, and she an extraordinary engraver. He was an active member of the Scientific Apparatus Makers Association and was chairman of the S.A.M.A. Thermometer and Hydrometer Committee in 1935. Upon Charles Miller's untimely death in 1943, his wife, Elizabeth, who had worked at his side for all the prior years, continued to run the business with the assistance of Joseph Weber and R.M. Wilhelm. On January 1, 1946 the company incorporated under the new and current name of MILLER & WEBER, INC. In 1983, upon the retirement of Valentine P. Sauer, son-in-law of the late Joseph Weber, the Miller Family regained complete ownership of the company. Today, the company is owned by the founder's son, Charles J. Miller. The company continues to be managed by very dedicated family members including Mary G. Miller, Charles' wife; Deanne Miller Emory, their daughter; and Kenneth F. Groen, their nephew. Since 1983 the Miller family has taken MILLER & WEBER, INC. from the "job shop" it was to the leading manufacturing facility it is today. In the last ten years, as this website shows, we have extended our offerings tremendously. We pride ourselves as a complete source for thermometer and hydrometer needs - including accessories. Charles J. Miller's education in thermometry began as a very small boy, learning the trade at his parents' side. He was blowing glass before most children could read. As he grew older, he was sent to one of the best technical high schools in the state and, after a two-year tour of duty in the United States Army where he served as a Medical Technician in Stuttgart, Germany, he attended college where he earned his degree in Business. Today, he is President of MILLER & WEBER, INC., and a fine design engineer. He continues to serve on the ASTM Committee E 20.05 on Thermometry, as he has for more than thirty years. He is also a long-time active member of the Laboratory Products Association of S.A.M.A. Mary G. Miller worked in Law before retiring to raise her family. Today she runs the office, is a Vice-President and is in charge of accounting, finance and personnel. Deanne Miller Emory also began working in the manufacturing facility at an early age. Summer vacations were spent learning to engrave. Today, she is also a Vice-President of the Corporation and serves in technical support and customer service. She earned her degree in Chemistry from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and is respected for her expertise in the field |
of industrial hygiene. She is active on committees dealing with OSHA and EPA issues and is a member of the American Chemical Society. Kenneth Groen came to MILLER & WEBER, INC. in 1973. He is the factory Production Manager, a long-time member of the ASTM Committee E 20.05 on Thermometry and one of the most innovative glassblowers in the field today. Paul Robles has been with MILLER & WEBER, INC. since 1982, supervises the Calibration and QA departments and is a fine glassblower, known for his exacting abilities and dedication to high standards and quality.
