Mobil Oil Australia Pty Ltd refines and markets a broad range of petroleum products for commercial, wholesale and retail markets in Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Guam and the Pacific Islands.

    Mobil Oil Australia was established in Melbourne in 1895 and traded as the Vacuum Oil Company. It was the first oil company to operate in Australia.

    Today, Mobil has two refineries - one at Altona in Victoria and the other at Port Stanvac, near Adelaide in South Australia. The Mobil Altona Refinery supplies 50% of Victoria's petroleum needs and around 13% of Australia's total petrol needs. At the refinery, crude oil is distilled and converted into marketable petroleum products, kerosene heating oils, bitumen and LPG.

    The Adelaide Refinery ceased production in July 2003. It is being maintained in a state which will allow a possible future restart.

    Mobil's retail network comprises over 1200 service stations, including the Quix convenience store chain. Mobil markets the Mobil Synergy Fuel System in Australia and is also a marketer of lubricants, which include the new Mobil 1 SuperSyn檖roducts.

    Mobil products are distributed to consumers around the country by road, rail, ship and pipeline. To distribute its products Mobil operates bulk terminals, coastal bulk plants and several inland bulk plants. Mobil operates five storage and distribution terminals around Australia and owns and operates, solely or under joint venture arrangements, coastal bulk plants across the country.

    Other Mobil interests include Australia's largest road surfacing group. Asphalt production and road making through Emoleum is a 50:50 joint venture between Mobil and the Rinker Group (formerly part of CSR Limited). Mobil Aviation is a major supplier to airports in Australia, providing refuelling facilities to the aviation industry.
