Product description:

Product description
Clear, colorless to yellowish liquid with a pungent odor, which fumes on contact with air and has a boron trifluoride content of at least 15.2 wt.%.

Chemical name

Complex based on boron trifluoride (BF3) and

acetonitrile (CH3CN) dissolved in acetonitrile

Trade name

Boron trifluoride- Acetonitrile

Ingredients

Boron trifluoride Acetonitrile

CAS No.

Boron trifluoride: 7637-07-2

Acetonitrile: 75-05-08

EINECS No.

Boron trifluoride: 231-569-5

Acetonitrile: 200-835-2

Form supplied and packaging
Supplied in 200 l sheet steel drums and in 60 l metal drums both with HDPE inner lining. Supply in small containers or in tanks is also possible.

Properties
When stored for relatively long periods it can turn dark in color without losing its application-related properties. On dilution with water, hydrolysis ensues with liberation of acetonitrile. A corrosive, highly acidic mixture of boric acid, hydroxyfluoroboric acids and tetrafluoroboric acid is obtained. The vapors released in air are corrosive.
Due to its catalytic properties Boron trifluoride-Acetonitrile reacts with numerous organic compounds.

Certificate
See DIN EN 9001:2000 certificate .
Storage and transport
The product must be stored cool and dry in tightly sealed container or tank. Storage tanks must be drained at regular intervals, washed out and inspected. Tanks that have been washed out must be refilled only when they are completely dry. When stored or transported in pressure-resistant tanks the product can be kept under an atmosphere of dry nitrogen.
Applications
For selective reaction control in numerous organic reactions, primarily as a catalyst or cocatalyst.
It can be easily dosed with gear pumps or membrane pumps.

Examples of its uses in the chemical, petrochemical and pharmaceutical industries include:
dimerization
trimerization
oligomerization
polymerization
rearrangement
alkylation
acylation
carbonylation
ring closure
reforming of paraffins
upgrading of lubricants and many others.

Safety
Toxic. Corrosive. Highly flammable.
During the handling of these products the data and reference in the safety data sheet are to be considered. In addition the necessary caution and good industrial hygiene while handling chemicals have to been kept.
